In collaboration with the City of Vancouver, students from SFU, UBC, BCIT, Langara, and Emily Carr have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they are learning in their university courses to challenges in the city. Real-life projects are tested and implemented throughout the city and then launched at City Hall at an event called Hubbub.
Through my work at SFU’s Semester in Dialogue I had the opportunity to design five Hubbub event posters for CityStudio Vancouver. The design brief for each poster was a list of three random words (for example: Dada / Rave / Market; or, Film Noir / Glam Rock / Miami) that I would then use to create three drafts from which the final would be chosen. It was a very open and experimental way of working, one that reflects the CityStudio way of doing things.
